Buckeye Broadband Email System is Down

      pubsub.slavino.sk / spam_resource · Saturday, 15 January, 2022 - 19:14 edit

Ohio broadband provider Buckeye Broadband is reporting that its bex.net email service is offline. If you're a sender, I recommend pausing all sends to bex.net (and any other domains pointing at mx*.buckeyecom.net, if possible) until you see an all clear message from the ISP posted here .

Toledo's 13ABC Action News reports that the issue is due to a ransomware attack .

Google Postmaster Tools (GPT) is missing data

      pubsub.slavino.sk / spam_resource · Friday, 7 January, 2022 - 15:33 edit

It's not just you! Many folks are reporting that Google Postmaster Tools is currently showing no data. I'm seeing this as well. In my case, my last data points appear to be from December 29th or so. At least one person suggested the outage goes back further than that, but I wasn't able to confirm that myself. I am, however, reliably informed that there is indeed a broad issue occurring, that the right people at Google have been made aware of the issue and are working on getting the issue addressed. Stay tuned; I'll post updates as I learn more.

      Fastmail dealing with DDOS attack

      pubsub.slavino.sk / spam_resource · Saturday, 23 October, 2021 - 23:22 edit · 1 minute

The good people at email platform provider Fastmail (whom I've blogged about more than once previously ) are dealing with a distributed denial-of-service ( DDOS ) attack. Not fun. I feel for them.

    From Twitter :

Over the last two days, service has been interrupted several times. This is the result of an ongoing attack against Fastmail as well as other email providers. We're working with network service providers and law enforcement to put an end to the problem.

    -- @Fastmail - 9:31 PM - Oct 22, 2021

Fastmail users and interested parties, you can find current status information on their system status site here . Their two most recent updates that I see (current as of 6:25 pm Chicago time on Saturday October 23rd) combine to say:

"We have multiple mitigations in place against the DDOS attacks and we are continuing to monitor. No mail has been lost, your data remains safe and services are operational." ... "DDOS protection can throttle or disrupt customer traffic. Some regions are affected if they are where attack traffic is also coming from. We apologize to affected customers."

Currently, from Chicago, I am able to access my Fastmail account successfully, and I'm able to send and receive mail there. Hopefully that means their DDOS-mitigation efforts are working and that they're recovering.

Google Postmaster Tools and DMARC reporting offline

      pubsub.slavino.sk / spam_resource · Friday, 8 October, 2021 - 17:08 edit

I've received multiple reports from different folks that Google Postmaster Tools (GPT) and Google's DMARC reporting have both been offline since sometime around October 4th. GPT is still accessible but has no data later than 10/3, and for those used to receiving DMARC reports from Google, none have been received since 10/3.

I'll share more information when known. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any updates.

(As an aside, Google has a helpful DMARC overview and tutorial for domain administrators. It's worth reading!)

      Disroot total Blackout

      pubsub.disroot.org / disroot_blog · Friday, 2 February, 2018 - 15:50 · 1 minute

Hi there.

Today Disroot server had a bit of a tumble. Due to little mistake, our main server became a total zombie. There was no way for us to bring it back to life other then driving 70km to the datacenter to manually restarting it. Server was down at 14:45 and back up at 16:05

We're very sorry for this situation and we will take extra measures to prevent that from happening in the future.

From other bad news.

Some of you already noticed, Circles app has been disabled on our server. This is due to a bug that caused huge performance issues. We hope that it will be resolved soon. Until then we need to keep it off in order to have our platform operational.

And some good news.

In comming week we will be commencing huge disroot infrastructure upgrade operation! We will deploy SSD dedicated database server, upgrade RAM and storage capacity. This will greatly improve performance and give disroot a needed buffer to grow. Of course this will mean some short (hopefully) downtimes during the week, about which we will of course inform you all.

If you want to be up to date with whats going on with disroot, you can follow our: Mastodon or Diaspora acccounts. Additionally you should definatelly check https://state.disroot.org and subscribe to incident and downtime reports via email or rss feed.

Downtime on the movim.eu XMPP service

      Timothée Jaussoin · pubsub.movim.eu / Movim · Wednesday, 26 July, 2017 - 21:52

We are currently experiencing downtimes of the movim.eu XMPP server (and related services like Pubsub or Conferences) for several weeks now. This is having a serious impact on the availability of the platform (and, by extension, Movim related instances) for many of our users. We are deeply sorry about that.

The exact reason of those downtimes is not known for now (it seems to be related to the Pubsub module of the server). The movim.eu XMPP services are running on top of the Metronome XMPP server that is not maintained anymore since 2016.

We are currently working closely with the ejabberd XMPP server team to migrate the whole XMPP infrastructure in the upcoming weeks to this new server. This migration will also bring more stable and new features (especially regarding the Pubsub part) to the existing platform.

    Thanks for your comprehension. #movim #downtime #xmpp #metronome #ejabberd #migration
